MCXL.SE – Welcome to the XL-programme at Stockholm School of Economics

A lot of people are talking about how everything was better before. But when was really before, and what made it better then it is today? I was thinking about travelling, how much it changed just the last 50 years, but also how it rapidly will change in the future. When the first emigrants left Europa to search for happiness and peace in America hundreds of years ago it was weeks, sometime months at sea to look forward to. For the emigrants that headed for Australia from Europa the journey was even undescribebly long. Even only 60-70 years ago when airplanes started to become a much more normal and commercial thing, a flight to Australia would mean 3 or 4 days and several lay overs. Today we can go online, book a flight for the same afternoon and be on the other side of the world the day after, something […]

Todays fastest growing businesses

A lot of us that study at the XL-programme at Stockholm School of Economics looks up to a lot of different people and entrepreneurs within different businesses. Some, or let’s say a lot of people are driven by money, and some people are driven by an idea or by making a change in the world. This is what makes us all different, that we have different goals and different ideas. New businesses and ideas come out all the time and people become rich from different things all over the world. Social media is one business idea that have gained serious speed and grown exceptionally fast lately since the using of internet have grown and the technology gives us the possibility go online practically everywhere we are. Since the millennia huge brands like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tinder and uncountable more have emerged and gathered the world population to one specific place, […]

Study Swedish abroad

Goodmorning everybody! So today I was thinking about giving some good information for you that are thinking about study Swedish but from abroad. Maybe you’re planning to move to Sweden, or you’re just in love with the singing sound of the language. Either way, having a good base of the language is a good start. Even if you don’t really have to know Swedish to get around in Sweden today, most Swedish people prefer to speak Swedish and often they don’t feel too comfortable when they have to speak English for a longer while. One way to learn Swedish is online. There are a lot of courses that you can start on all kinds of levels. You have the choice to study in the pace you want to, and also with the possibility to study with a teacher, usually with a fee. A good place to check out for this […]

Welcome to the future!

You might think that I would be writing about the future of us youths, and what we’re bringing in to the world, but actually no. I’m writing about something far more important that only happens once in a lifetime. We are officially in the future accordingly to the classic movie ”Back to the Future”. The year that Michael J Fox ended up in when he traveled into the future with his time traveling car was on the 21st of October in 2015, so we’ve been a week in the future, not to bad huh? So when Michael or Marty McFly which is his character’s name wounds up in 2015 there are so many strange things there, or here. Flying cars, telephones with camera and self-lacing shoes are just some of the strange things that are in the future. A lot of the things brought up in the movie is actually […]

Sunrises vs sunsets

I’ve been thinking a lot about sunrises and sunsets, and what is really the difference. Oh sorry, good morning by the way! As an aussie I’ve seen the best of both worlds. The majestic sunrises of the east coast, and the dramatic sunsets of the west. If someone would ask me which the best one is, it would be a task impossible for me to answer. I have seen the sun set just off the coast of Perth, I have seen that great ball of fire being sunken into the ocean outside of Cape Naturaliste and Exmouth and I have asked myself how there would ever be something more beautiful than this. But then I have also been sitting on a surf board in the water outside of Byron Bay and watched the sun slowly crawling itself over the horizon. I’ve watched the camp fire on Fraser Island die out […]

Studying can be really hard, we all know that. It is not for nothing that studying is student and dying put together. We all have our different ways and techniques to study. Some people (not me unfortunately) sit down and make a detailed plan about everything that have to be done every day and how to get there. Then you have people like me, that freak out a week before and drink 5 cups a coffee a day and sleeps at the library. This might not be the absolute best way to work, but it have saved me a few times to be honest. That we students live a hard life is not something that we didn’t know before, but there are ways to make our lives easier, that’s why I thought that we as student have to work together and share our best tips for studying with each […]

Take care of everyone

Good morning y’all! I’ve been thinking a lot about taking care of each other and working together as humans since this refugee crisis started. As you all, hopefully, know, we’re facing the biggest flows of refugees since the Second World War. This is not strange at all considering the ugliness taking place in the world right now. What I really hope though is that the leaders of the world take some responsibility and solve this crisis by accepting the people on the run. Maybe we “normal” people can’t solve everything when it comes to this crisis but if everyone opens up their heart and also their wallets, it will surely make a change. We in Sweden have an extraordinary life quality compared to other countries. When I first started travelling I could really see the difference between countries and countries. In Sweden we have a life much better than […]

Sunny days

Good morning ya’ll! Sweden is a country that really fascinates me sometimes. I’ve been living here in Stockholm for almost two years now, so I’ve experienced all the seasons, twice. (Yep I survived the winters!) During the winter months Sweden feels a bit like The Day After Tomorrow. There’s no people around, you’re all huddled up with your friends in someone’s living room, reading, not burning books and waiting for Dennis Quaid to come and rescue you. If you meet people when you’re out walking with the snow striking against your face, everyone looks like you’re the first human they’ve seen in months, and you start questioning if they want to talk to you, or eat you. Anyways, when the cold long winter months, that stretches up to like 5 months are over, a beautiful spring and summer comes. Maybe it’s not strange for Swedish people seeing all these people […]

Best sites in Sweden

So we’re a gang of non-swedes that were planning to do a small Sweden trip before schools starts in september. We have about 3 weeks and a nice camper van so we thought we have to make the best of this. The start of our travel will of couse be Stockholm but now we’re a bit confused about where to go. Something we all want to see is the mountains, so we’ve seen that the closest mountains is in Härjedalen, which should be around 4 hours drive from here. After that we thought about going more north (sorry all northerners but Sweden is just too freaking bit). Then people told us to skip Värmland, so we’re thinking about maybe swing by Norway when we’re at it and go to the coast cities of Bergen and Stavanger, to come out in Oslo and hit the Swedish border on the west coast […]

Surfing in Sweden or Portugal

Hi everybody! I hope you’re all well this not to bad day in Stockholm. It’s my first time writing on the page and I’m gonna talk about something not so school related, but more about my reflections as an exchang student in Sweden. My name is Connor, I’m 24 years old and I’m from Lennox Head in New South Wales. If you haven’t heard about Lennox head, I’m not shocked or hurt. It’s a small surfing village just south of Byron Bay, another yet more famous surfing town in the northern part of NSW. If you haven’t even heard about Byron Bay, maybe you’re just not that info surfing. But to put in on the map, it’s about a two hour drive south of Brisbane, the third largest city in the wonderful country of OZ. Australia that is. So being a aussie bloke from one of the largest surfing […]
