Qualities of a good leader

What are your views regarding this saying?  ‘Great leaders are born, not made’. To a certain point, I agree. I believe the qualities for a great leadership are innate. The good news is that leadership skills can be learned, and they are enhanced by practice and repetition. Many leaders are good, but few qualify as exceptional. The word leadership can bring to mind a number of different images. My favourite definition of a leader is, someone who help themselves and others do the right think. Leaders are those people who, build an inspiring vision, and are innovators. Leaders, set out the direction of the team or a whole organisation; a motivating, exciting and dynamic direction. Apart from setting directions, leaders must also make use of their management skills to guide people to reach the destination in a smooth and organised manner. We are only a few days away from one of the most romantic days of the year. Every February 14, many people exchange cards, chocolates, flowers with their special Valentines. All this in the name of Saint Valentine, but who is he? The most popular theory about the origins of Saint Valentine is that Emperor Claudius 2 was forbidding Roman men to marry during wartime. Bishop Valentine went against his wishes and performed secret weddings. As a consequence, he was jailed and executed. Whilst he was in jail he wrote a letter to the prison guard’s daughter signing it ”from your Valentine.” The feast of Saint Valentine was first established in 496 by Pope Gelasius 1. It was during mid- 18th century that Valentine’s started to increase popularity in England, lovers started to send sweets and romantic messages. And this is how everything started! After some time, the hand written […]

What employees really want?

As an employer you are required to have a number of different roles- the hardest one is being a mind reader. In order to stay competitive in the business, employers have to anticipate what the employees really want. Employers are getting very creative in the way they recruit and retain their most talented employees. Recently, Business Insider, teamed up with PayScale to find dream- job companies where a lot of importance is given to employee satisfaction. Winning a spot on the list means that the company has distinguished itself from peers by creating an ideal work place for employees. Google is the Number 1 place to work for the seventh time in 10 years. Besides a more than attractive salary Google employees get enhanced health care coverage, breast- cancer screenings, unlimited snacks, free personal fitness classes, haircuts, spa trucks and laundry rooms- the list is endless.
