Women and their love for shoes

Shoes

Shoes come in every shape and size and I plead guilty for loving them all: flats, heels, boots, ballets, wedges, peep toes and more. I am sure I am not the only one who experiences this but my heart skips a beat and feel a rush of joy when I see and try on a new pair of shoes. If someone asks me what is my favourite possession without hesitation my answer would be shoes.

Research shows that on average a woman owns 20 pairs of shoes of any given time. It is safe to say that many of the women I know own more. The majority of women will tell you that they love their shoes because of the way they make them feel and many are willing to experiment with different styles and colours of shoes in a way they don’t experiment with other parts of their wardrobe.

If there is one thing that Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City has taught us all, is that a great pair of shoes can fix everything. A lot of women agree that there is something magical about buying a new pair of shoes. A great pair of shoes can instantly changes our mood for the better and while many of us can’t explain this, thankfully, psychologist has did the research for us. You might already be aware of the fact that dopamine, a neurotransmitter, releases good feelings throughout the body. Studies show that shopping releases dopamine as well especially for shoes causing that feel- good feeling. Something else worth mentioning when it comes to brain and shoes is that part of the brain is activated when the dopamine flows. Whenever something makes us happy, the brain tells us to keep buying it.

The high heel shoes have been seen as a symbol of power, confidence and sex appeal all at once. Studies have shown that high heels alter a woman self- esteem and confidence. Heels help women feel taller and more confident. Every extra inch of heels gives woman an extra inch of confidence.

Self-image is very important to women and while clothes may not fit everyone the same shoes, do not discriminate by shape or size. Everyone can look sexy in a pair of heels. Wearing heels can make you appear taller and thinner, and can make it look like you have better posture and longer legs. Shoes provide the foundation for the image that women want to transmit to the world. No other article of clothing or accessory may allow women to express themselves or who they want to be.

The perfect pointy pair of shoes can make your outfit look on point but it can also make you suffer. High heels are known to being bad for health and comfort but this does not stop women from wearing them. Some women choose fashion over comfort but at the same time they are paying a high price for it. Research has shown that these sky scrapers heels can be costly in more than one way, taking a toll on the spins, hips, knees, ankles and feet while altering the posture and gait.

The unresolved question remains: Fashion or comfort?
