We are only a few days away from one of the most romantic days of the year. Every February 14, many people exchange cards, chocolates, flowers with their special Valentines. All this in the name of Saint Valentine, but who is he? The most popular theory about the origins of Saint Valentine is that Emperor Claudius 2 was forbidding Roman men to marry during wartime. Bishop Valentine went against his wishes and performed secret weddings. As a consequence, he was jailed and executed. Whilst he was in jail he wrote a letter to the prison guard’s daughter signing it ”from your Valentine.” The feast of Saint Valentine was first established in 496 by Pope Gelasius 1. It was during mid- 18th century that Valentine’s started to increase popularity in England, lovers started to send sweets and romantic messages. And this is how everything started! After some time, the hand written […]

Some traditions are simple and do not require a lot of thought, while other traditions require more planning and effort on behalf of a lot people. Choosing the right career

If you take a look of the people close to you, you will immediately realise that the traditional three- step career plan no longer applies. It is clear that graduating college, getting a job and getting promoted at the same company plan is outdated. Today people change their job titles, move between many companies and industries throughout the course of their career. The main advantage of this trend is that people are more flexible and have more choice when it come s to choosing a career. The downside is that all choices are not necessarily good and having too many can be daunting. Choosing a career path is, for the majority of us, a confusing, difficult and anxiety filled experience. Even if you ask for help of professionals, you can still be confused about what is right for you.  Many will tell you to find something that you love and […]

Christmas is probably the most celebrated holiday in the world. The modern Christmas is a product of hundreds of years of both secular and religious traditions from around the globe. All over the world, Christmas celebrations reflect local and cultural traditions. In my opinion Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. For a couple of weeks every year people are happier, peaceful and the world takes on a magical radiance. Since I was young, I have been interested in different cultures. First of all I find it extremely interesting to learn about cultures different than mine. A little extra knowledge never hurt anyone and it would probably come in handy at some point or another. Whenever I learn about a different culture I find it very stimulating and helps me think in a different way and expand my thoughts. Recently I carried out some research about Christmas traditions […]
